Apo Reef

From the town of Sablayan in the province of Occidental Mindoro, Apo Reef is accessed via a 2-hour boat ride. Apo Reef is one of the most imporant reef systems in the Philippines because of its sheer size and diversity. Home to numerous pawikans and migratory birds, utmost conservation practices are implemented by the ecotourism officers in the island.

They even imposed a lights out on us and “almost” cut short our socials. We learned that suppressing laughter whilst spontaneously getting soused with cheap gin is a feat exercised by the most motivated drinkers!

Oh and planktons glow like LED lights in the water. Really cool.

Following shots were shot with my handy Canon and Fuji Superia 400.

Carabao Island

Carabao Island

Carabao Island is just one of Romblon’s tourist destinations that is waiting to bloom. I was able to go there last Friday via a boat from Pandan, Tablas Island, Romblon. The time to go there will take you about almost an hour wherein we spent half the time screaming as if we’re on the Jungle Log Jam (one of the rides in Enchanted Kingdom). Upon arriving there, I just can’t help but admire its beauty. Its shore is covered with a white and fine sand, similar to that of Boracay. The water is very clear. It’s wavy there though which is caused by the northeast wind. Read the rest of this entry »

Trip to Mt. Matalisbong

Just when I thought it would be a sad, sad weekend for me I got a hasty invite to accompany an exploration team to Mt. Matalisbong to check out mining developments on their claims.

We thought the SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway) would be open so we exited at Mabalacat in NLEX only to find out that it is closed once again because of some repairs. Because of this we turned back to San Fernando and wasted a good 30 minutes and precious gasoline. The SCTEX developers should make an early warning system regarding the status of their expressway so as not to cause travelers unnecessary inconvenience.

The road to Sta. Cruz is a long drive, passing by Pampanga, Bataan and finally Zambales. I once thought that Sta. Cruz was a developed, bustling hub because almost all of Victory Liner’s buses had the town as its ultimate stop. There had to be something in Sta. Cruz worth warranting the bus placards. It turns out Sta. Cruz is a small, sleepy town and is Zambales’ northernmost town. A few kilometers further and we’d have hit Infanta, Pangasinan.
